Why you need a reel
- Extends hose life by 2–3 years (no kinks, UV exposure, or mechanical damage)

Materials and construction
- Metal frame (powder-coated): the most durable option, lasts 10+ years. More expensive
- ABS plastic frame: lighter, cheaper. Service life 3–5 years, UV degradation
- Solid rubber wheels: roll easily over gravel and grass. NOT inflatable, if you're concerned about punctures
- Auto-retract mechanism: a spring coil inside the housing. 5,000–10,000 cycles before wear. Gardena, Kärcher — top brands
- Hose guide rollers: swiveling or fixed. Swiveling rollers prevent kinks during retraction
Wall-mounted reel installation
- Choose a location near the tap (no more than 0.5–1 m away so the supply hose stays short)
- Mounting height: 1.2–1.5 m from the ground — comfortable for average height
- Mark holes: using the template from the box, 2–4 mounting points
- Drill for 8–10 mm anchors. Into brick — hammer drill mode; into wood — standard
- Bolt the bracket with 8 mm bolts and washers
- Hang the reel on the bracket and secure it (usually with a locking screw)
- Connect the supply hose to the tap — preferably with quick-connect fittings
Maintenance
- Once per season — lubricate the auto-retract mechanism with silicone grease (NOT lithium grease)
- Check inlet/outlet fittings for leaks once a month
- For winter — drain water from the hose, store the reel indoors in a warm space
- Do not leave in direct sunlight — plastic parts age, UV degrades metal paint
- If wheels squeak — lubricate the axles with penetrating oil
